I bought these as part of a gong set up that I wanted to build. (I bought a pair of 8"x3" and a pair of 12"x3"). After the range day, the straps had not been "pounded" with projectiles, per se, but they had definitely been hit a few times. The holes themselves healed pretty well from the hits. That being said, the projectiles that I was using were not defensive in nature, so a clean hole is not surprising. I do not know how well they would hold up to being hit by a hollow point pistol round. Even so, I would highly recommend the 3"x12" straps over any other strap, for two critical reasons: 1) The wider strap will take a beating longer than the others by default of having more material to chew though. 2) The extra 4" length meant that my 2x4 didn't take as many hits as the side with the shorter 8" strap. Ultimately, it would be shooters preference, and it was kind of cool having targets at different elevations, but if the goal is target stand longevity, then you definitely want the longer straps.
